Neowiz Partners with Shadowlight to Publish Kill the Shadow Globally
Neowiz has secured global publishing rights for Shadowlight's debut title, Kill the Shadow, a suspenseful detective adventure featuring time-rewinding gameplay and unique visuals. Following Neowiz's recent successes, this deal highlights their commitment to story-driven games and collaboration with emerging indie developers like Shadowlight, a promising Shanghai-based studio.
Neowiz, a leading global game publisher, has signed a publishing agreement with Chinese indie developer Shadowlight for their first game, Kill the Shadow. This narrative-driven adventure game features a detective protagonist with the ability to rewind time, set against a visually striking backdrop that combines high-definition 3D environments with charming 2D pixel art characters.
Following the success of Neowiz’s 2023 hit Lies of P, the company has been actively expanding its portfolio by partnering with innovative indie studios such as Zakazane and now Shadowlight. Kim Seung-chul, co-CEO of Neowiz, emphasized their shared development philosophy focused on delivering premium narrative games for PC and console players.
Kill the Shadow is set in an alternate post-war divided city where players investigate bizarre cases using deduction and time manipulation. The game’s demo, showcased during Steam Next Fest, received high praise for its compelling story, innovative reasoning mechanics, and unique visual style.
Shadowlight, a young Shanghai-based studio founded by five recent graduates, has already gained recognition through university competitions and support from industry leaders like Hypergryph, the developer behind Arknights. Their inclusion in Hypergryph’s Coreblazer incubator program underscores their potential and commitment to innovative game design infused with dark humor.
The partnership between Neowiz and Shadowlight reflects a broader trend of established publishers investing in fresh intellectual properties that emphasize storytelling and unique player experiences. As Black, CEO of Shadowlight, noted, having a publisher that values cultural inclusivity and collaborative development is crucial in today’s evolving games industry.
This deal not only expands Neowiz’s global reach but also provides Shadowlight with the resources and platform to bring their distinctive vision to a worldwide audience. For players and industry watchers alike, Kill the Shadow promises a fresh narrative experience that blends innovative gameplay mechanics with a captivating aesthetic.
