Elgato Expands Stream Deck with Modular Hardware and Software Innovations
Elgato’s new Stream Deck Everywhere strategy broadens macro control options with modular hardware, scissor-switch keys for keyboard-like precision, and a virtual Stream Deck software. The modules, available in multiple key counts and unbranded for custom integration, enable developers and manufacturers to embed Stream Deck functionality into diverse projects. Additionally, a network dock with PoE support and a software-only version enhance flexibility for users seeking advanced, customizable input solutions.
Elgato has unveiled its new Stream Deck Everywhere initiative, introducing a versatile range of hardware and software options designed to expand the use cases and accessibility of its popular macro control platform. This strategy includes modular Stream Deck hardware, a new scissor-switch key variant, a virtual software-based Stream Deck, and a network dock accessory with power over Ethernet support.
The Stream Deck Modules come in 6-, 15-, and 32-key versions housed in durable aluminum chassis, designed for easy integration into custom mounts, furniture, or machines. These unbranded modules empower developers, hobbyists, and manufacturers to embed Stream Deck functionality without modifying consumer products or building custom macropads from scratch. Pricing starts at $49.99 for the smallest module, with discounts available for bulk purchases.
In addition to modular hardware, Elgato introduced a new MK.2 Stream Deck variant featuring scissor-switch keys that offer enhanced speed and tactile feedback akin to traditional keyboards. This upgrade improves precision and supports rapid, multi-layered input, opening possibilities for new applications such as typing-style interactions and potentially full LCD-keyboard designs in the future.
Elgato also launched a software-only Virtual Stream Deck (VSD) for desktop users, similar to its mobile app, providing a customizable macro menu accessible via hotkeys or mouse buttons. Initially available for select Corsair and Stream Deck hardware owners, the VSD will expand to more devices. Unlike the mobile Pro version, the desktop VSD is free but requires installation of the Stream Deck 7.0 beta.
Complementing these offerings is a $79.99 Stream Deck network dock that supports power over Ethernet, enabling flexible placement of Stream Deck buttons anywhere with a network jack. This accessory enhances deployment options beyond traditional USB-C connections and is expected to ship in August.
Broader Significance and Opportunities
Elgato’s expanded Stream Deck ecosystem reflects a strategic shift from a standalone device to a flexible platform that supports diverse user needs. By offering modular hardware and software solutions, Elgato enables developers, content creators, and manufacturers to embed customizable macro controls into a wide range of products and workflows. This flexibility fosters innovation in user interfaces, enhances productivity, and supports new interaction paradigms in creative and professional environments.
The introduction of scissor-switch keys signals potential future developments toward more keyboard-like devices with dynamic LCD keys, which could revolutionize how users interact with macro controls. Meanwhile, the Virtual Stream Deck software and network dock expand accessibility and deployment options, making macro controls more integrated and versatile across devices and environments.
For developers and manufacturers, the unbranded Stream Deck Modules offer a ready-made, field-tested interface solution that reduces development time and cost while providing a high-quality user experience. This can accelerate the creation of custom control panels, embedded systems, and interactive installations, driving innovation across industries such as broadcasting, gaming, and professional content creation.
