Activision Ends Updates for Call of Duty Warzone Mobile Due to Low Performance

Activision has ceased updates and new content for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile after the game failed to meet expectations among mobile players. With monthly revenue dropping significantly and the game removed from app stores, Activision encourages players to transition to Call of Duty: Mobile, which offers similar gameplay and higher engagement. Existing Warzone Mobile players can transfer points and continue playing without social features or bug fixes.

A little over a year after its launch, Activision announced it will no longer update Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile due to underperformance. The game did not meet expectations among mobile-first players, unlike its success on PC and consoles.

According to Statista, Warzone Mobile’s monthly revenue peaked at $4 million in April but fell to about $500,000 from November through February. In contrast, Call of Duty: Mobile consistently generates over $20 million monthly, making it difficult for Activision to justify maintaining both titles.

Activision has removed Warzone Mobile from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Players can no longer purchase Call of Duty Points or Black Cell in the game but can redeem any existing points. The game remains playable if previously downloaded, though social features are disabled and no bug fixes will be issued.

Activision encourages Warzone Mobile players to switch to Call of Duty: Mobile, which offers a free-to-play experience with multiple multiplayer modes including a 100-player battle royale. Players can log in with their Activision accounts and receive double the value of their Warzone Mobile points in Call of Duty: Mobile until August 15.

While Warzone Mobile focused on larger, strategic battle royale matches with resource management, Call of Duty: Mobile features faster-paced 5v5 matches alongside its battle royale mode. Both games share similar loadout systems and FPS mechanics, easing the transition for players moving between them.

This shift highlights the challenges in sustaining multiple mobile game titles within a franchise and underscores the importance of player engagement and revenue performance in mobile game development strategies.
