Core Devices App Revives Original Pebble Watches
Core Devices is gearing up to ship its Core 2 Duo smartwatch pre-orders in July and August while edging towards mass production. The company’s beta program will test 200 units and open its new iOS and Android app to legacy Pebble Time, Time Round, and Pebble 2 watches. ClassicalPebble fans can now bypass sideloading hacks.
Introducing Core Devices’ Next-Gen Smartwatch
Core Devices, founded by Eric Migicovsky—the creator of the original Pebble—has shared a major update on its upcoming smartwatches. The company is preparing to ship its first batch of Core 2 Duo units to early preorder customers as part of a beta test program.
On Track for Mass Production
According to Migicovsky’s recent blog post, Core Devices will begin shipping preorders in July and August. Customers will receive an email later this month to confirm shipment details and cover any applicable duties, tariffs, or local taxes.
Core 2 Time: An Enhanced Model
Alongside the Core 2 Duo, the company is developing the Core 2 Time, which adds a touchscreen and built-in sleep and step tracking. Engineering samples are expected within the next month, keeping the release on schedule for later this year.
Beta Testing Program Opens Wider
Core Devices has manufactured 200 Core 2 Duo units for beta testers and will distribute them to select preorder volunteers. The goal is to refine hardware, firmware, and the companion mobile apps before full-scale production.

Legacy Support for Pebble Fans
Perhaps the most exciting news is that Core Devices’ new iOS and Android apps will also support older Pebble models. Fans who’ve been sideloading outdated apps since Fitbit ended support in 2018 can opt into the beta to get an official, modern companion experience.
What’s Next for Core Devices
With beta testing ramping up and production milestones in sight, Core Devices is positioning itself to win over both legacy Pebble enthusiasts and new smartwatch buyers. The wider beta program underscores a commitment to community feedback and real-world validation.
Broader Implications for IoT
This move illustrates a growing trend in the IoT space: supporting long-lived devices with fresh software experiences. By mixing classic hardware with new mobile tools, companies can extend product lifecycles and deepen user loyalty—an approach others in the industry are likely to follow.
