Zevo Secures $6M to Expand Its EV Car Sharing Network
Inspired by Musk’s robotaxi promise, Hebron Sher built Zevo in 2021 to let EV owners earn more by renting through a contactless, app-driven service. After raising $6 million, Zevo tracks $8 million ARR and 3,500 on its waitlist. Focused on gig workers, the platform automates insurance and payments, offers hosts 35–65% returns, and boasts median rentals of around 80 days.
Dallas-based Zevo launched in 2021 after Tesla’s robotaxi promise fell short. Founder Hebron Sher saw an opportunity to create a peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace exclusive to electric vehicles. By focusing solely on EVs, Zevo streamlines the rental process with smartphone-integrated connectivity that turns every Tesla and other plug-in model into a revenue generator for owners.
A Lean Path to Market
Rather than chasing massive VC rounds, Sher assembled a small team, raised a $6 million seed, and bootstrapped growth across U.S. metros. In less than a year Zevo is pacing over $8 million in annual recurring revenue and has a waiting list of more than 3,500 renters. With minimal marketing spend, Zevo tapped into the gig economy: 90% of rentals are used by Uber, Lyft, or DoorDash drivers.
Contactless EV Sharing
Zevo’s app connects directly to vehicle telematics and handles keyless access, charging credits, tolls, and insurance in one workflow. This eliminates paperwork and credit hurdles that block many gig workers from traditional rental or sharing platforms. EVs’ built-in connectivity makes it possible to automate damage checks, start-stop access, and real-time billing.
- Hosts earn 35–65% of a vehicle’s cost back within a year
- Renters access fully digitized rentals without paperwork or deposits
- Automated insurance, charging, and billing keep downtime minimal
Future Outlook and Market Fit
Looking ahead, Zevo plans to hit $100 million ARR with just 30 employees. Even as Tesla edges closer to a robotaxi fleet, Sher believes there’s room for specialized platforms that serve owners and gig drivers. Zevo’s nimble model and focus on returns per host position it to scale quickly and adapt to evolving urban mobility demands.
