Bing Offers Free AI Video Generation with OpenAI’s Sora Model
Microsoft has integrated OpenAI’s Sora text-to-video AI into the Bing mobile app, allowing users worldwide to generate short AI videos for free without needing a ChatGPT subscription. The Bing Video Creator supports up to three queued videos, offers standard and fast generation speeds, and stores videos for 90 days. This move aims to make AI video creation accessible and effortless for everyone.
Microsoft has recently enhanced its Bing mobile app by integrating OpenAI’s Sora text-to-video model, enabling users to generate AI-powered short video clips for free. This new feature, called the Bing Video Creator, removes the previous barrier of requiring a ChatGPT subscription, democratizing AI video creation for a broader audience.
Accessible globally except in China and Russia, the Video Creator is available on Bing’s Android and iPhone apps, with desktop and Copilot Search support coming soon. Users can generate up to three videos simultaneously and receive notifications when their videos are ready.
The tool offers two generation speeds: a free Standard mode and a Fast mode that produces videos within seconds. While users get 10 free Fast generations, subsequent fast requests require redeeming Microsoft Rewards points. Each video is five seconds long in a vertical 9:16 format, with plans to add horizontal 16:9 support later.
Although the generated videos currently show some animation imperfections and a cartoony style, they represent a realistic preview of Sora’s capabilities beyond the polished demos previously released by OpenAI. Videos are stored on the Bing app for up to 90 days and can be downloaded or shared across platforms.
Why This Matters for Creators and Businesses
By making AI video generation free and accessible, Microsoft is lowering the entry barrier for content creators, marketers, and businesses to experiment with video content. This could accelerate creative workflows, enhance digital marketing strategies, and enable rapid prototyping of video ideas without costly production resources.
The ability to generate videos directly from text prompts within a search app also hints at a future where AI-powered multimedia content becomes seamlessly integrated into everyday digital experiences. This could transform how users seek information, learn, and engage online.
Looking Ahead
Microsoft’s rollout of the Bing Video Creator signals a growing trend of embedding advanced AI tools directly into widely used platforms, making AI creativity more approachable. As video formats expand and quality improves, expect more users to adopt AI-generated videos for personal and professional use.
For developers and businesses, this development opens new avenues for integrating AI video generation into apps, marketing campaigns, and customer engagement strategies without heavy upfront costs or technical barriers.
