Tripledot Studios Acquires AppLovin Portfolio to Become Global Mobile Gaming Leader
Tripledot Studios, a leading mobile game developer, is acquiring AppLovin’s mobile games portfolio for $800 million. This deal will expand Tripledot’s global footprint to 12 studios across 23 cities, serving 25 million daily users and generating nearly $2 billion in annual revenue. The acquisition positions Tripledot as a top five independent mobile gaming company worldwide, enhancing its game portfolio, global talent access, and AI-driven capabilities.
Tripledot Studios, one of the fastest-growing mobile game developers globally, has announced the acquisition of AppLovin’s mobile games studio portfolio for approximately $800 million. This strategic move marks a pivotal milestone, elevating Tripledot from a high-performing challenger to a global leader in mobile gaming.
Upon closing, Tripledot will operate 12 studios across 23 cities with more than 2,500 team members. The combined entity will serve 25 million daily active users and generate nearly $2 billion in annual gross revenues, establishing Tripledot as a top five independent mobile gaming company by revenue worldwide.
Founded in London in 2017 by industry veterans Lior Shiff, Akin Babayigit, and Eyal Chameides, Tripledot Studios has built a robust portfolio of over 25 live casual games, including popular titles like Woodoku, Solitaire.com, Nut Sort, and Triple Tile. The company has been profitable since its second year and was named the fastest growing company in Europe by the Financial Times in 2023.
The acquisition deal is structured as half cash and half equity, with AppLovin becoming a minority shareholder in Tripledot. This partnership will enable Tripledot to expand its presence in key strategic markets such as the U.S. and Asia.
Strategic Advantages of the Acquisition
This acquisition provides Tripledot with three key strategic advantages that will differentiate it in the global mobile gaming industry:
- Game Portfolio Diversification and Shared Expertise
Tripledot’s portfolio is highly diversified, with no single game accounting for more than 10% of total net revenue. Integrating AppLovin’s studios enhances expertise in both in-app purchase and in-app advertising models, enabling creation of games for a broader global audience and leveraging best practices in marketing, product development, AI, and monetization.
- Access to a Global Talent Pool
With studios and offices spanning North America, Europe, and Asia, Tripledot can leverage specialized experts in product, technology, marketing, and art across geographies, enhancing player experiences for tens of millions daily.
- Instant Scale and Enhanced AI Capabilities
Pending regulatory approval, this acquisition will make Tripledot one of the largest mobile developers and publishers globally, boosting its data science and AI-driven capabilities to deliver superior player experiences.
AppLovin’s CEO Adam Foroughi expressed confidence in Tripledot’s leadership, highlighting their operational excellence and commitment to creativity in game development. This transition allows AppLovin to focus on its core strengths while ensuring the acquired studios thrive under Tripledot’s stewardship.
Tripledot’s current offices include London, Warsaw, Minsk, Barcelona, Jakarta, and Melbourne. The acquisition adds 10 studios and popular titles such as Hexa Sort, Wordscapes, Cooking Madness, Project Makeover, and Mobile Strike, expanding presence across 17 additional cities in North America, Europe, and Asia.
The deal is expected to close by early summer 2025, subject to regulatory approvals, with financial and legal advisory support from Raine Group, BofA Securities, Latham & Watkins, Aream & Co, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
This acquisition not only solidifies Tripledot Studios’ position as a global mobile gaming powerhouse but also underscores Europe’s continued leadership in the mobile gaming industry, following the legacy of companies like Rovio, Supercell, and King.
