Thatgamecompany and CoreBlazer Launch Global Game Jam for Indie Developers
Thatgamecompany and CoreBlazer have partnered to launch a global game jam inviting developers of all skill levels to create emotionally impactful, accessible games inspired by TGC's signature style. The three-week event offers cash prizes, industry recognition, and opportunities to showcase at CoreBlazer Game Fest 2025. This initiative champions creative storytelling and supports emerging indie talent worldwide.
Thatgamecompany (TGC), renowned for artistic and emotionally resonant games like Journey and Sky: Children of the Light, has teamed up with CoreBlazer, the global game investment brand of Hypergryph, to co-host a global game jam aimed at emerging indie developers. This three-week event, starting April 28, invites creators worldwide to develop interactive games inspired by TGC’s hallmark style—universally accessible and deeply emotional experiences designed to connect players across generations.
The game jam encourages submissions that push creative boundaries and embody CoreBlazer’s commitment to empowering creators with bold ideas. Participants of all skill levels—from students to seasoned developers—are invited to submit original games that emphasize emotional storytelling and accessibility, reflecting TGC’s philosophy of four-quadrant games enjoyed by all ages.
Submissions will be reviewed by teams from both Thatgamecompany and CoreBlazer, with finalists evaluated by an esteemed panel including TGC co-founder Jenova Chen, Hypergryph co-founder Light Zhong, and USC Games director emeritus Tracy Fullerton. Winners will receive cash prizes, including a $4,000 grand prize for Best Overall and $2,000 awards for categories like Best Visual Design and Best Gameplay.
The event culminates with the announcement of winners on July 11, 2025, followed by an opportunity to showcase their games at the CoreBlazer Game Fest in Shanghai later that month. This platform not only offers visibility among industry luminaries but also celebrates creativity and originality in indie game development.
Thatgamecompany’s commitment to expanding emotional experiences in gaming is reflected in its award-winning titles and recognition by prestigious institutions like the Smithsonian and the Museum of Modern Art. CoreBlazer, as Hypergryph’s global investment arm, supports exceptional developers through funding, incubation, and international events, fostering innovation across the gaming industry.
This collaboration highlights the growing importance of emotionally driven, accessible games and the vital role of community-driven initiatives in nurturing new talent. By participating, developers gain invaluable exposure, mentorship, and the chance to contribute to the evolving landscape of interactive storytelling.
