TAG Heuer's Iconic F1 Watch Revamped with Solar Power

TAG Heuer has unveiled a modern revival of its iconic Formula 1 watch, originally launched in the 1980s. This new iteration, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph, marks a significant evolution in the brand's lineup, blending nostalgic design elements with cutting-edge solar technology. As the official timekeeper for the 2025 F1 season, TAG Heuer has made a bold statement by installing a striking clock tower at the Grand Prix racetrack, showcasing the watch's distinctive features.

The revamped watch retains the vibrant, colorful aesthetic of its predecessor, featuring a larger 38 mm case and subtle design enhancements such as applied luminous hour markers and crisper hands. The use of bioplastic, named TH-Polylight, underscores TAG Heuer's commitment to eco-friendly materials. This castor-based polyamide is molded over a steel core, ensuring durability and robustness.

The Formula 1 Solargraph is powered by the solar-powered TH-50 movement, developed in collaboration with Citizen and its Swiss subsidiary, La Joux-Perret. This movement allows the watch to run for up to 10 months on a full charge and can be reactivated with just 10 seconds of light exposure. The watch is positioned as an entry-level luxury timepiece, priced at $1,800, offering a premium Swiss Made experience at a more accessible price point compared to other solar-powered watches.

TAG Heuer's strategic focus on solar technology aims to attract a new generation of consumers, particularly those drawn to the digital-first, pop-cultural phenomenon of Formula 1. The brand's movement director, Carole Forestier-Kasapi, highlights the convenience and longevity of solar power, which offers a lifespan of over 15 years and accuracy within a couple of seconds per month.

The Formula 1 Solargraph is available in nine variants, including limited-edition models with contrasting color schemes and matching rubber straps. This release is part of TAG Heuer's broader effort to recapture market momentum and appeal to both nostalgic collectors and new fans.
