Spotify Updates App with Enhanced User Control and Playlist Features
Spotify’s latest app update focuses on giving users more control over their listening experience and recommendations. Premium subscribers benefit from a revamped Queue with easier access to Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, Repeat, and Sleep Timer controls. New features include a Hide button for unwanted tracks, a 30-day Snooze option, improved playlist management with Add, Sort, and Edit buttons, and AI-powered playlist creation. The update shifts Spotify’s approach from algorithm-driven to user-driven music curation.
Spotify has announced a significant update to its app aimed at enhancing user control over music playback and recommendations. This update introduces several new features that will gradually roll out to all users, especially benefiting Premium subscribers by providing more intuitive and flexible management of their listening experience.
One of the key improvements is the revamped Queue for Premium users. The new design offers easier access to essential controls such as Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, Repeat, and Sleep Timer. Importantly, users can now fully disable Smart Shuffle and Autoplay from the Settings if they prefer a more manual listening experience. Additionally, Spotify now displays the tracks it plans to play after the queued songs, allowing users to better anticipate and manage upcoming music.
To further personalize listening, Spotify has enhanced the Hide button, making it more accessible for users to remove unwanted tracks from playlists across all devices. Looking ahead, a new 30-day Snooze feature will allow users to temporarily exclude tracks from their recommendations, providing a stronger level of control over what music is suggested.
Playlist management on mobile has also been improved with the addition of Add, Sort, and Edit buttons at the top of playlists. These tools enable users to add new tracks, modify playlist titles and cover art, and rearrange songs with ease. In select countries including the U.S., U.K., and Australia, users can now convert their Liked Songs into playlists filtered by genre, streamlining playlist creation.
Spotify has also reorganized its music curation tools. The Create button, now located at the bottom-right of the mobile app, provides access to playlist creation, collaborative playlists, and Blend playlists that merge musical tastes. Premium users gain access to AI-powered Playlist features and Jam sessions, which enable real-time shared listening and collaborative queue management.
These updates mark a shift in Spotify’s strategy from relying heavily on algorithmic recommendations toward empowering users with greater control over their music experience. By balancing automation with user choice, Spotify aims to enhance engagement and satisfaction across its platform.
