Sony WH-1000XM6 Headphones Leak Reveals Advanced Noise Cancellation and Features
Sony is set to release the WH-1000XM6, the successor to its acclaimed WH-1000XM5 noise-canceling headphones. Leaked specs reveal a new QN3 HD Noise Cancelling processor, 12 microphones with AI enhancements, improved comfort, and fast charging. The headphones support Hi-Res Audio, Bluetooth 5.3, and advanced sound modes, with a launch expected in mid-May 2025 at $450.
Sony is preparing to launch the WH-1000XM6, the next-generation model in its flagship noise-canceling headphone series, following the WH-1000XM5 released three years ago. This new release marks the longest interval between generations since the series began in 2016, signaling significant advancements in technology and design.
Leaked information from an Amazon Spain listing, discovered by a Reddit user and reported by Dealabs and Android Authority, reveals that the WH-1000XM6 will feature Sony’s new QN3 HD Noise Cancelling processor. This processor is reportedly up to seven times faster than the QN1 processor found in the WH-1000XM5, skipping the QN2 generation entirely, which may be a marketing strategy but indicates a substantial performance boost.
The headphones will incorporate 12 microphones, six of which utilize AI technology to enhance call clarity and filter out unwanted noise, making them ideal for busy environments. The Multi Noise Sensor technology with Auto NC Optimizer will continue to provide adaptive noise cancellation, optimizing performance in various surroundings.
Sony has also focused on audio quality enhancements by collaborating with Grammy-winning mastering engineers. The WH-1000XM6 will feature 30mm drivers, Hi-Res Audio support, DSEE Extreme upscaling technology, and a customizable 10-band equalizer. Additional sound features include 360 Upmix for immersive cinema-like audio, Game EQ for enhanced gaming sound clarity, and 360 Reality Audio with head tracking.
Comfort and usability improvements include a lightweight design at 254 grams, a redesigned headband with softer padding, and fold-flat construction for portability. The new carrying case features a magnetic closure for quick access. Fast charging remains a highlight, with a quick 3-minute charge providing between one to three hours of playback, depending on sources.
Connectivity upgrades include Bluetooth 5.3 support and multipoint connection capability, allowing seamless switching between devices such as smartphones, PCs, and Macs. Classic features like touch controls, Speak to Chat functionality, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and adaptive sound control will remain.
The WH-1000XM6 will be available in three colors: black, platinum silver, and midnight blue. Pricing is expected to be around $450 in the US. The official announcement is anticipated between May 14 and May 16, 2025, aligning with leaked Amazon listing dates.
Sony’s WH-1000XM6 headphones represent a significant evolution in noise-canceling technology, combining AI-powered audio enhancements, faster processing, and user-centric design improvements. These features position the WH-1000XM6 as a top contender for consumers seeking premium sound quality and advanced noise cancellation in a comfortable, versatile package.
