Skybound has officially launched its first internal game development studio, Quarter Up, based in Los Angeles. This new team of over 40 experienced developers is focused on creating fighting games, marking a significant expansion for Skybound into in-house game production.

Quarter Up’s inaugural project is Invincible VS, a 3v3 tag fighting game set in the universe of the popular comic series Invincible, created by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley. The game is scheduled for release in 2026.

The studio’s name, Quarter Up, is a nostalgic nod to arcade culture, referencing the quarters players used to insert to continue gameplay. Many team members bring prior experience from renowned studios such as Activision Blizzard, Riot Games, Naughty Dog, Netflix, Amazon Games, and Double Helix.

Mike Willette, executive producer of Invincible VS, highlights that the team’s passion for fighting games and competitive combat titles drives their vision. Several members previously worked on the 2013 fighting game Killer Instinct, fueling their desire to innovate within the genre.

Willette shared that the team felt a calling to return to fighting games and create something new, leading to the proposal of an Invincible fighting game to Skybound. The company embraced the vision, supporting the development of Invincible VS.

Bringing the Invincible Universe to Life

Invincible VS was unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest, showcasing its intense 3v3 tag fighting mechanics featuring iconic characters like Mark “Invincible” Grayson, Atom Eve, and Omni-Man. The game faithfully recreates the comic’s settings and brutal, hyper-violent combat.

Chris Paulson, EVP and general manager of Skybound Games, emphasized the close collaboration with Robert Kirkman and the creators behind the Invincible TV series to ensure the game captures the franchise’s signature brutality and high stakes superhero combat.

Paulson also praised the Quarter Up team’s deep legacy in fighting games, calling them the perfect group to bring this bold project to life. Their expertise and passion promise a thrilling experience for fans and newcomers alike.

With Invincible VS, Skybound and Quarter Up are poised to make a significant impact on the fighting game genre by combining beloved characters, visceral combat, and a dedicated, experienced team. The game’s 2026 release is highly anticipated by fans eager to see the Invincible universe brought to life in a new, interactive form.
