By narrowing results to the “chatgpt.com/share” domain, anyone can unearth shared conversations—some practical, others downright odd. From bathroom renovation tips to resume rewrites and satirical guides on microwaves and Satan, these logs reveal glimpses of user behavior and personal data.

Search Engines Index Shared ChatGPT Links

While ChatGPT doesn’t publish conversations by default, users can generate a shareable URL by clicking “share” and then “create link.” These links sit on the chatgpt.com/share domain, which search engines like Google and Bing routinely crawl and index—making user-generated AI dialogues searchable.

Once indexed, links can surface personal data. In one instance, a shared resume rewrite session revealed enough details to track down the user’s LinkedIn profile. What started as a private AI chat ended up exposing real-world professional information.

Privacy Risks and Data Exposure

Although share links are explicitly public, users may not anticipate search engines indexing them. OpenAI has not commented on the issue, while Google points out that publishers control whether pages are indexed. In essence, if a link is live on the web, it can be found.

This scenario echoes past incidents with Google Drive: documents set to “anyone with link” would sometimes appear in search. But unlike Drive, these ChatGPT pages aren’t embedded on other sites—search engines are crawling them directly.
