Hale called the viral narrative "misinformation" and emphasized the company’s stance on user consent and data separation.

Oura devices collect sensitive health signals—heart rate, sleep, temperature, movement and menstrual-cycle metrics. After influencer-driven reports sparked a backlash, Hale posted a TikTok assuring users that Oura doesn’t sell health data to third parties "without your explicit consent." He reiterated that promise onstage: "We will never share your data with anyone unless you direct us to do it."

Hale explained that the DoD work involves running an enterprise solution in a separate, secure environment and that the government does not have access to consumer Oura data. The company also referenced Impact Level 5 (IL5), a DoD certification for handling sensitive, unclassified data, to clarify why specialized architecture and controls are involved.

On Palantir, Hale rejected the phrase "partnership" as misleading. Oura acquired a company that had a SaaS relationship with Palantir, meaning a business contract rather than an open data-sharing integration. "The systems are not connected. There's no way Palantir has access to your data," he said, calling the inflamed coverage "totally overblown."

Hale also pointed to Oura’s terms of service, which state the company will resist attempts to use user data for surveillance or prosecution. He noted that when users authorize data access for things like tech support, access is limited and audited: staff can only see what the user explicitly allows.
