Oura App Enhances Smart Ring with AI-Powered Meal and Glucose Tracking
Oura has integrated two AI-powered features into its smart ring app using its proprietary Oura Advisor model. Users can now log meals by photographing food for instant nutritional analysis and personalized dietary advice. Additionally, continuous glucose monitoring is enabled via a wearable sensor, linking glucose data with sleep and activity for holistic health guidance. These innovations deepen personalized wellness tracking without extra app fees, available soon in the US and globally.
Oura, known for its advanced smart ring technology, has permanently integrated two innovative AI-driven features into its app, powered by an in-house large language model named Oura Advisor. These additions significantly enhance the device’s health tracking capabilities by focusing on nutrition and glucose monitoring.
AI-Powered Meal Tracking with Photo Logging
The meal tracking feature allows users to log their food intake simply by taking photographs of their meals. Leveraging Oura Advisor’s AI capabilities, the app identifies the foods pictured and provides a detailed nutritional breakdown, including protein, fiber, sugars, fats, and carbohydrates. This eliminates the need for manual entry, streamlining the user experience while delivering precise dietary insights.
Beyond analysis, the feature offers personalized meal recommendations aligned with the user’s health objectives, helping users make informed dietary choices that support their wellness goals.
Continuous Glucose Monitoring Integration
The second AI-driven feature introduces continuous glucose tracking through a partnership with Stelo, a company providing wearable glucose biosensors. Users must purchase a two-pack of these sensors, each lasting 15 days, to enable 24/7 glucose monitoring via the Oura app. The sensors are worn on the back of the arm and are not intended for individuals on insulin therapy or at risk of hypoglycemia.
This glucose data is contextualized alongside other health metrics such as sleep, stress, and activity levels, providing users with comprehensive insights into how various factors influence their blood sugar levels throughout the day.
Unified Health Recommendations via Oura Advisor
Oura Advisor synthesizes data from these new AI features along with existing app metrics to deliver tailored recommendations for sleep, readiness, and physical activity. This holistic approach empowers users to optimize their health by understanding the interplay between nutrition, glucose levels, and lifestyle factors.
Both features are available at no additional cost within the app, aside from the glucose sensors themselves. They support iOS and Android platforms, with a simultaneous launch in the United States and an international rollout of the meal tracking feature planned later this year.
These advancements highlight the growing role of AI in personal health technology, enabling more intuitive, data-driven wellness experiences that adapt to individual needs and lifestyles.
