Mitsubishi Motors is preparing to launch a new electric vehicle (EV) in North America in 2026, which will be based on Nissan’s upcoming third-generation Leaf. This new EV will be Mitsubishi’s second electric model offered in the US market, following the pioneering i-MiEV.

The vehicle will utilize the CMF-EV platform, a modular electric vehicle architecture that also underpins Nissan’s Leaf and Ariya SUV. This platform supports an EPA-estimated range of up to 304 miles on a single charge, signaling competitive performance for Mitsubishi’s upcoming EV.

This launch is part of Mitsubishi’s broader Momentum 2030 growth strategy, which commits to releasing a new or significantly revised vehicle every year from 2026 through 2030. Mitsubishi’s North American CEO, Mark Chaffin, highlighted the company’s positive sales momentum, noting an 11% year-over-year increase in Q1 2025, driven largely by the Outlander SUV and its plug-in hybrid variant. While Mitsubishi has not disclosed the production location for the new EV, considerations around tariffs and manufacturing logistics are critical.
