Meta Launches Edits Video-Creation App Globally

Meta has officially launched Edits, a new video-creation app designed to empower creators with a suite of innovative tools. Available globally on both iOS and Android, Edits is poised to become a formidable competitor to ByteDance's CapCut, especially given its free access to all features at launch.

The app allows users to track video ideas, gain inspiration, and create content enriched with effects and AI tools. Notably, Edits enables creators to export videos without watermarks, a feature that CapCut only offers through its paid Pro version.

Edits includes a variety of tools to enhance the video creation process. The 'Ideas' tool helps jot down concepts for new videos, while 'Projects' organizes and manages different creations. The 'Inspirations' tool allows browsing trending audio to incorporate into videos, and the 'Green screen' feature lets users replace video backgrounds.

Additional features include automatic captions, music from Instagram's library, and the ability to animate static images using AI. The 'Cutouts' feature offers precision tracking to isolate specific objects, and videos can be shared directly to Instagram or Facebook, or exported for other platforms.

Meta plans to introduce more features in the future, such as the 'Modify' tool for altering video aesthetics with AI, and 'Keyframes' for adjusting clip positions. Collaborations with other creators or brands will also be possible, enhancing feedback and creative exchange.

By launching Edits, Meta aims to capture a broader creator market, encouraging the use of its platform for short-form content across various social media channels. This strategic move not only positions Meta as a leader in video creation tools but also provides creators with a robust alternative to existing apps.
