Life360 Fully Integrates Tile Lost Item Tracker Into Its App

Life360 has completed the integration of Tile’s lost item tracking capabilities into its main family locator app, allowing users to track family members and valuables like keys and wallets in real time. The update centralizes user bases and introduces features like location history, emergency dispatch, and push notifications for left-behind items, enhancing convenience and security.

After more than three years since Life360 acquired Tile for $205 million, the two services are now fully integrated. This milestone means users can track both family members and their valuables—like wallets, keys, and bags—within a single app. Life360’s update centralizes the previously separate user bases, encouraging Tile users to adopt Life360 as their primary tracking tool.

The rollout began on a Wednesday and will reach all users in the coming weeks. Tile users will see prompts to switch to Life360, while Life360 users gain a new section for tracking items alongside people and pets on the Location tab. Items equipped with Tile trackers appear on the in-app map in real time when near a family member.

Users can access up to two days of free location history for lost items. Subscription tiers extend this access: Gold and Platinum members see up to 30 days, while Silver members get 7 days. Additionally, Silver subscribers can now use emergency dispatch services via the Tile SOS button or Life360 app, though this feature is limited to 2024 Tile devices.

Life360 plans to introduce automatic push notifications alerting users when Tile-tagged items are left behind, adding another layer of security and convenience. Meanwhile, the Tile.com domain now redirects to Life360.com, signaling a strategic consolidation.

Although Life360 has not announced plans to retire the standalone Tile app, the full replication of Tile’s features within Life360 suggests a future phase-out may be likely. The delay in integration allowed competitors like Chipolo to launch trackers compatible with Apple and Google’s native finding networks, intensifying market competition.

Life360’s flagship app boasts 83.7 million global monthly active users, with 45.3 million in the U.S., underscoring its strong market presence. By integrating Tile’s item tracking, Life360 aims to create the largest finding network, blending family safety with asset tracking in one seamless experience.

Why This Integration Matters

Combining family location tracking with lost item detection creates a more comprehensive safety ecosystem. Users no longer need multiple apps to monitor loved ones and their belongings, simplifying daily life and enhancing peace of mind. This integration also strengthens Life360’s competitive edge against tech giants like Apple and Google by offering a unified, feature-rich platform.

Moreover, the tiered subscription model provides flexible options for users with varying needs, from casual tracking to advanced security features like emergency dispatch. The upcoming push notifications for left-behind items demonstrate Life360’s commitment to proactive user support.

Looking Ahead

The integration marks a pivotal step for Life360 as it consolidates its offerings and expands its user base. However, the competitive landscape remains fierce with new entrants leveraging native platform integrations. Life360’s success will depend on how effectively it can innovate and migrate Tile users without disrupting their experience.

For developers and businesses in the IoT space, this integration highlights the importance of unified platforms that offer holistic tracking solutions. It’s a reminder that user convenience and seamless functionality are key drivers of adoption in connected device ecosystems.
