When an AI button ruins the upgrade glow

Upgrading from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 16 felt like a real treat: better cameras, improved battery life and a fun new color. Hardware buttons that surface AI features should be tested against everyday use: pockets, car mounts, nightstands and accessibility settings.

  • Provide clear opt-outs and conservative defaults so users aren’t forced into AI features they don’t want.
  • Measure unintended activations, battery impact and support tickets as key launch metrics, not just feature usage.
  • Build accessibility-first controls so adjustments are discoverable and easy to use.
