The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) recently announced the appointment of three new directors to its board: Tiziano Giardini, Jennifer Estaris, and Pedro Zambon. These appointments mark a strategic effort to enhance the organization’s global reach, inclusivity, and sustainability within the game development industry.

Tiziano Giardini is a seasoned games ecosystem strategist and builder. He co-founded IGDA Italy, transforming it into a vibrant nationwide chapter with regular events and partnerships. At 34BigThings, one of Italy’s leading game studios, he balances production and business development while leading Quickload, an accelerator for early-stage teams. His board role emphasizes creating robust connections and infrastructures to empower developers globally.

Jennifer Estaris brings a unique blend of creativity and environmental advocacy. Known for directing games like Monument Valley 3 and Subway Surfers, she is passionate about climate-conscious game development. Jennifer volunteers with the IGDA Climate Special Interest Group and co-chairs the Storytelling Committee at Playing for the Planet, helping developers address the industry’s environmental and societal impacts.

Pedro Zambon is a researcher and advocate for sustainable growth in game development ecosystems, especially across Latin America and the Global South. He co-founded the IGDA Incubation & Acceleration Special Interest Group and leads research at Utrecht University on collaborative practices in game development. Pedro’s expertise in emerging markets, public funding, and international collaboration will enhance IGDA’s global initiatives.

The IGDA also bid farewell to outgoing board members Margaret Krohn, Natasha Skult, Rami Ismail, and Guy Blomberg, who contributed significantly to expanding global support, mentorship, and event presence within the organization.

Broader Significance and Industry Impact

The addition of these directors underscores IGDA’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable global game development community. Their combined expertise addresses critical areas such as ecosystem building, environmental responsibility, and support for emerging markets—key drivers for the future growth and resilience of the industry.

By integrating strategic leadership with a focus on climate-conscious development and global collaboration, IGDA is positioning itself as a catalyst for positive change. This approach not only benefits developers but also aligns the gaming industry with broader societal goals, enhancing its relevance and sustainability in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Opportunities for Developers and Stakeholders

Developers and studios can leverage the expanded IGDA network to access mentorship, funding opportunities, and collaborative platforms that support early-stage teams and sustainable practices. The focus on emerging markets opens new avenues for growth and innovation, while climate-conscious initiatives encourage responsible development that resonates with today’s socially aware audiences.

IGDA’s leadership evolution exemplifies how industry organizations can adapt to changing global dynamics by embracing diversity, sustainability, and research-driven strategies. This model offers a blueprint for other sectors seeking to balance innovation with social and environmental responsibility.
