Taking phone calls in noisy environments can be frustrating for both parties. Background noise often drowns out voices, making conversations difficult to follow. Fortunately, Apple introduced a handy feature called Voice Isolation in iOS 16.4 that addresses this challenge.

Voice Isolation works by muffling distracting background sounds during phone calls, ensuring the person on the other end hears your voice clearly. Whether you're on a business call in a busy café or chatting with friends on a packed bus, this feature improves call quality significantly.

To enable Voice Isolation, you must be on an active phone call. Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center, tap Phone Controls, then select Voice Isolation. This setting remains active for future calls until you manually switch it off by selecting Standard mode.

Alongside Voice Isolation, Apple offers Wide Spectrum mode, which amplifies background sounds without muting your voice. This is especially useful for group FaceTime calls where multiple voices and ambient sounds need to be heard. Currently, Wide Spectrum is only available on FaceTime but may expand to regular calls in the future.

Apple’s continuous enhancements to call audio quality demonstrate a commitment to improving user communication experiences. For developers and businesses, understanding and leveraging these features can lead to better app integrations and user satisfaction.
