Grindr Launches Right Now Live Feed to Boost Real-Time Connections
Grindr has introduced Right Now, a social media-style live feed that shows recent posts with text and photos, helping users connect instantly. The feature, tested in select markets, is now available globally and includes options for hosting. Powered by AI-driven tools, Grindr aims to improve user experience and revenue by offering timely, intention-based connections.
Grindr has taken a bold step to accelerate connections with its new feature, Right Now, a live feed that mimics social media streams like Twitter or X. Unlike the traditional grid of user profiles sorted by proximity, Right Now displays a dynamic stream of recent posts containing text and photos that disappear after an hour, creating a sense of immediacy and spontaneity.
This feature allows users to specify if they’re looking to host, adding clarity to intentions and reducing guesswork in interactions. Initially tested in select markets, Right Now is now rolling out globally, with users in some locations receiving free hour-long sessions weekly, and plans for paid sessions in the future.
Grindr’s Chief Product Officer, AJ Balance, emphasized that Right Now was developed based on community feedback to help users find exactly what they want without wasting time on mismatched expectations. The positive response to the initial launch accelerated the global rollout.
Right Now is part of Grindr’s broader strategy to integrate generative AI and social features to enhance user experience and revenue. Other AI-powered tools include A-List, which summarizes chats to help rekindle connections, and Wingman, an AI assistant that drafts chat responses, offers sex tips, and suggests date ideas.
These AI features are often available as free trials but require subscription plans for ongoing access, reflecting Grindr’s efforts to diversify revenue streams after financial challenges post-IPO. CEO George Arison highlighted the company’s vision to operate as an AI-native startup, embedding AI deeply into product development and marketing.
By adopting a social media-inspired live feed and leveraging AI, Grindr is redefining how users connect in real time, making the app more engaging and intention-driven. This approach not only enhances user satisfaction but also opens new monetization avenues, positioning Grindr as a forward-thinking platform in the competitive dating app landscape.
