Google’s AI Image to Video Generator Debuts on Honor 400 Phones
Honor has partnered with Google to launch an AI-powered image-to-video generator on its new Honor 400 and 400 Pro phones. Using Google's Veo 2 model, the feature creates five-second videos from static images directly within the Gallery app. While the AI excels with clear subjects like people or pets, it sometimes produces quirky results with complex images. The service is free for two months with daily limits and will later require a subscription. This innovation marks a significant step in mobile AI video generation.
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor has introduced a groundbreaking AI feature powered by Google’s Veo 2 model, enabling users to generate short videos from static images directly on their phones. This image-to-video generator is integrated into the Gallery app of the new Honor 400 and 400 Pro devices launching on May 22, 2025.
The AI tool creates five-second videos in portrait or landscape orientation, taking one to two minutes to process each generation. Unlike some AI video generators, it does not accept text prompts, relying solely on the input image to inspire the animation. This simplicity aims to make the feature accessible and easy to use for all Honor 400 owners.
Users have reported mixed results depending on the image subject. Clear photos of people or pets often yield realistic and engaging motion, while complex or unusual images can produce unexpected or surreal animations. For example, a vintage car image resulted in an impossible rotation, and a soccer game photo generated a chaotic scene with numerous players and referees.
The feature will be free for the first two months for Honor 400 buyers, with a daily limit of ten video generations. After this introductory period, Google plans to introduce a subscription model, though details remain undisclosed. Currently, video generation using Veo 2 is part of Google’s Gemini Advanced subscription, which accepts text prompts but does not yet support direct image-to-video conversion for general users.
This launch represents a significant advancement in mobile AI capabilities, bringing sophisticated video generation technology directly to consumers’ fingertips. It opens new creative possibilities for users to animate memories, enhance social media content, and experiment with AI-generated video art without needing complex software or technical expertise.
For developers and businesses, this technology signals a growing trend toward integrating AI-powered media generation into mobile platforms. Leveraging models like Veo 2 can enhance user engagement by enabling dynamic content creation and personalized experiences. However, challenges remain in refining AI interpretation of complex images and managing computational resources efficiently on mobile devices.
