Google Photos Celebrates 10 Years with Major Editor Redesign
Google Photos celebrates 10 years by unveiling a major photo editor redesign aligned with Android 16’s Material You update. New AI-powered tools like Auto Frame and Reimagine will expand beyond Pixel 9 devices, making editing more intuitive. With over 1.5 billion monthly users and trillions of stored photos, Google continues pushing AI to enhance how we relive memories.
Google Photos has reached a significant milestone: 10 years of transforming how we capture, store, and relive memories. To celebrate, Google announced a sweeping update to its photo editor, alongside expanding popular Pixel 9-exclusive features to more devices.
The redesign aligns with Android 16’s Material You visual overhaul, known as Material 3 Expressive, which brings a more colorful and animated interface. This new editor consolidates all editing tools into a single, streamlined location, making photo adjustments faster and more intuitive.
Among the standout features are AI-powered enhancements like Auto Frame, which intelligently extends a photo’s background, and Reimagine, a tool that regenerates parts of an image based on simple text prompts. Previously exclusive to Pixel 9 devices, these tools will soon be accessible on a broader range of smartphones.
Google Photos boasts impressive usage statistics that highlight its global impact: over 1.5 billion monthly active users, more than 9 trillion photos and videos stored, 370 million monthly searches, 440 million memories shared, and 210 million photos edited each month.
The upcoming editor update will roll out globally to Android users starting next month, with iOS users receiving it later this year. This update not only enhances usability but also introduces AI suggestions that combine multiple effects to elevate photo quality effortlessly.
Google’s commitment to pushing AI boundaries in Photos reflects a broader trend in digital media: smarter, more accessible tools that empower users to create and share richer visual stories. As AI continues to evolve, platforms like Google Photos will redefine how memories are preserved and experienced.
