Google Gemini AI Summarizes PDFs and Google Forms
Google is rolling out new Gemini AI features in Workspace that automatically generate summary cards for PDFs and Google Forms. When you open a PDF, Gemini highlights key details and offers actions like drafting proposals or listing interview questions. It also creates response summaries for Forms and can build new forms from prompts. Available in over 20 languages for Drive from June 12 and in English for Forms starting June 26.
Google Brings AI Summaries to PDFs and Forms
On June 12, Google began rolling out new AI capabilities in Workspace powered by its Gemini model. These enhancements span Google Drive and Google Forms, enabling users to quickly extract key information without manual digging.
In Drive, opening a PDF automatically triggers a summary card in the side panel. Gemini analyzes the document and surfaces key points along with action prompts like “draft a sample proposal” or “list interview questions based on this resume,” saving teams from manual skimming.
- Proactive summary cards with AI-driven insights
- Clickable tasks to accelerate workflows
- Support for more than 20 languages
Form Response Summaries and Creation
Google Forms users will see AI-powered summaries for short-answer and paragraph-style responses once a form collects three or more replies. Gemini pulls from the form title, description, questions, and responses to highlight major themes and takeaways without opening each entry.
- Condensed summaries of responses for quick review
- AI-crafted takeaways based on question and answer context
- English-only launch, with general availability starting June 26
A new “Help me create” feature leverages the same AI engine to build forms from plain-language prompts. Users can reference supporting Docs, Sheets, Slides, or PDFs to ensure the generated form aligns with existing content—ideal for crafting quote estimations, surveys, or onboarding forms in minutes.
Rollout Timeline
The PDF summarization feature is available now to Workspace customers in over 20 languages. The form summaries roll out in English from June 26, and the “Help me create” tool for Forms becomes available on July 7.
