Google Enables Restaurants to Showcase Specials on Search Profiles
Google is introducing a new feature for restaurants and bars to showcase timely specials and events directly on their search profiles. Named 'What’s Happening,' this feature allows businesses to manually update offers or link social media accounts for automatic posting. Initially launching in select countries, it aims to boost visibility for daily deals and live events, enhancing customer engagement through Google Search.
Google is rolling out a new feature that allows restaurants and bars to prominently display specials, deals, and events on their search profiles. This update, called "What’s Happening," is designed to help food and drink businesses engage customers by showcasing timely offers directly in Google Search results.
The new section appears under the label “This week” within the business information block on Google Search. It gives restaurant owners control to update content manually or link their social media accounts such as Instagram, Facebook, or X (formerly Twitter) for automatic cross-posting of specials and events.
This feature builds on Google’s existing Posts on Google platform, which has allowed brands and local businesses to share updates for nearly a decade. By integrating social media feeds, restaurants can streamline their marketing efforts and ensure their latest promotions reach customers searching for dining options.
Initially launching in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the feature targets single-location food and drink businesses. Google envisions this tool being used for daily specials, happy hour deals, or promoting live music and events, enhancing local business visibility and customer engagement.
For restaurants and bars, this means a more dynamic and interactive search profile that can attract new customers and keep regulars informed. By leveraging both manual updates and social media integration, businesses can maintain a fresh and engaging online presence without extra administrative burden.
This update reflects Google’s ongoing commitment to enhancing local business tools and improving the search experience for consumers seeking timely and relevant information. As digital competition grows, features like "What’s Happening" empower small businesses to stand out and connect with their communities more effectively.
