DreamPark is pioneering a new frontier in entertainment by creating what it calls the world’s largest downloadable mixed reality (XR) theme park. Having recently secured $1.1 million in seed funding led by Long Journey Ventures, the company is poised to rapidly expand its footprint and revolutionize how people interact with physical spaces through immersive technology.

Unlike traditional virtual reality venues that require costly physical infrastructure—often exceeding $1 million to launch—DreamPark’s model leverages lightweight access points such as QR codes placed in real-world locations. Users scan these codes with mixed reality headsets like the Meta Quest 3 to unlock digital overlays on familiar environments such as parks, promenades, and event venues.

This approach enables DreamPark to transform underused or ordinary spaces into vibrant, interactive playgrounds without the need for new construction or permanent installations. For property owners and landlords, this means a cost-effective way to increase foot traffic and engagement by offering unique digital experiences that encourage visitors to return and explore.

During a demo in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens, the DreamPark experience showcased a 50,000-square-foot mapped area where players could collect virtual coins, interact with floating game elements, and engage in multiplayer competitions. The graphics, while intentionally cartoonish, effectively blended with the physical environment, creating a novel sense of presence and exploration far beyond the typical living room VR experience.

DreamPark’s founders, including Brent Bushnell—son of Atari cofounder Nolan Bushnell—bring deep expertise from entertainment and technology sectors. Their vision is to build a platform that not only entertains but also revitalizes communities by encouraging social interaction and physical activity through augmented reality. This vision aligns with a growing market: the global XR live event sector is projected to soar from $3.6 billion in 2024 to $190.3 billion by 2034.

What sets DreamPark apart is its scalability and affordability. By using existing public spaces and minimal physical infrastructure, the company can deploy new access points quickly and cost-effectively. This strategy contrasts sharply with traditional VR arcades that require expensive real estate and equipment, making DreamPark a disruptive force in location-based entertainment.

Looking ahead, DreamPark plans to expand its network across multiple cities, partner with premium intellectual property holders to create branded experiences, and grow its rental fleet of headsets to increase accessibility. The company is also developing an app that allows users to scan and convert their local parks into playable levels, democratizing mixed reality gaming.

DreamPark’s innovation is more than entertainment; it’s a social catalyst. By bridging digital and physical worlds, it invites people out of isolation and into shared adventures. As mixed reality technology matures, DreamPark exemplifies how immersive experiences can be seamlessly integrated into everyday environments, transforming how we play, connect, and engage with the world around us.
