DJI Launches Advanced Mavic 4 Pro Drone Outside US Amid Tariff Challenges
DJI has introduced the Mavic 4 Pro, its most versatile drone featuring a 360-degree rotating gimbal, 51 minutes of battery life, and a 100MP camera. Despite its global launch in Canada, Mexico, and other markets, DJI is not releasing it in the US due to ongoing tariff impacts and customs issues. The drone offers enhanced flight time, improved sensors, and advanced tracking, setting a new standard for consumer drones worldwide.
DJI has officially launched the Mavic 4 Pro, marking a significant leap in drone technology with features designed to enhance versatility and performance. This drone is the first in the Mavic series to offer a 360-degree rotating gimbal, enabling footage that can tilt, roll, and capture true vertical shots, expanding creative possibilities for filmmakers and professionals.
The Mavic 4 Pro boasts an impressive 51-minute battery life, tying with DJI's longest flight times to date, and features a built-in 100-megapixel camera capable of recording 6K/60fps HDR video. Its triple-camera array includes upgraded sensors for enhanced image quality and low-light performance, making it ideal for professional-grade aerial photography and cinematography.
Despite its advanced capabilities, DJI has chosen not to launch the Mavic 4 Pro in the United States at this time. The decision stems from ongoing challenges including tariffs imposed during the previous US administration and persistent customs delays that have hindered DJI's ability to import drones into the US market.
Instead, the Mavic 4 Pro will be available in Canada, Mexico, and other international markets where DJI operates. However, DJI will not honor US warranties for drones purchased outside the US, and the company is not providing review units to US-based media, limiting exposure in the American market.
The drone's technical enhancements include a new 95Wh battery pack—the largest DJI has incorporated in a consumer drone—allowing longer flights and extended range. It also features improved obstacle avoidance with omnidirectional sensors effective even in low light and advanced tracking capabilities that maintain focus on subjects even when partially obscured.
Additionally, DJI introduced the DJI RC Pro 2 controller alongside the Mavic 4 Pro. This controller offers a large 7-inch swivel screen, automatic power-on when unfolded, and enhanced portability with foldable joysticks. Its HDMI output and substantial internal storage cater to professional users seeking streamlined workflows.
DJI has stated that while the Trump-era tariffs are a significant factor in their market strategy adjustment, multiple factors contribute to the decision to delay or forgo the US launch. The company continues to monitor the situation and explore solutions but has not provided a timeline for when the Mavic 4 Pro might become available in the US.
This development highlights the complex interplay between technology innovation, international trade policies, and regulatory environments. For businesses and professionals relying on cutting-edge drone technology, understanding these dynamics is crucial for strategic planning and operational continuity.
As the drone industry evolves, companies like DJI must navigate geopolitical challenges while pushing the boundaries of aerial imaging technology. The Mavic 4 Pro sets a new benchmark for performance and versatility, promising to enhance applications across filmmaking, surveying, inspection, and beyond in markets where it is available.
