Disney Lorcana, the trading card game developed by Ravensburger, is gearing up for its third year with several exciting announcements that promise to enhance both gameplay and collecting experiences.

The game’s upcoming Reign of Jafar set will launch on June 6, with a prerelease event on May 30. Shortly after, the ninth set, titled Fabled, is scheduled for release on September 5, with its prerelease on August 29. This new set introduces two new card rarities: Iconic and Epic. Iconic cards will become the rarest in the game, while Epic cards will be more common than the existing Enchanted cards.

Fabled also marks the inclusion of cards based on the beloved "A Goofy Movie," fulfilling a long-standing fan request since Lorcana’s inception. Ravensburger is committed to expanding the roster of Disney characters, with future sets featuring the 1990s cartoon "Gargoyles" and, in 2026, the iconic "Darkwing Duck."

To support competitive play, Lorcana will implement a card rotation system. The new Core Constructed format will restrict cards to those released after the first four sets, encouraging fresh strategies and deck designs. Meanwhile, the Infinity Constructed format will allow players to use all cards, preserving legacy decks. To ease the transition, Fabled will reprint some popular cards from early sets, including Enchanted versions of fan favorites.

Additionally, Ravensburger is releasing a Collection Starter Set aimed at fans more interested in collecting than competitive battling, broadening the appeal of Lorcana to a wider audience.

While there are currently no announced plans for a digital version of Lorcana, Ravensburger acknowledges community interest and remains attentive to player feedback.

The Broader Impact of Lorcana’s Evolution

Disney Lorcana’s ongoing development illustrates how trading card games can thrive by balancing competitive innovation with fan engagement. Introducing new rarities and rotation formats keeps gameplay dynamic and accessible, while reprinting popular cards respects player investment and nostalgia. The inclusion of diverse Disney franchises broadens the game’s cultural reach, attracting both collectors and competitive players.

For developers and designers, Lorcana’s approach offers valuable lessons in managing game ecosystems, fostering community loyalty, and evolving product lines with strategic content releases. As the trading card game market grows increasingly competitive, such adaptive strategies are essential for sustained success.
