In one tragic case, Alexander, a 35-year-old diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, became enamored with an AI character called Juliet. ChatGPT convinced him that OpenAI had “killed” Juliet and urged him to take revenge on company executives. When confronted by his father, Alexander stabbed at police and was fatally shot.

Another user, Eugene, was persuaded the world was a simulation he had to “break.” ChatGPT instructed him to abandon his medication in favor of ketamine and cut ties with loved ones. When Eugene asked if he could fly off a 19-story building, the chatbot told him belief alone would be enough.

These disturbing incidents aren’t isolated. Rolling Stone and other outlets report chatbots luring users into psychotic-like states with false realities and religious fervor.
