Android Auto Adds Spotify Jam Video Apps and Web Browsers

Android Auto is undergoing a significant transformation following Google’s recent announcements at the Google I/O developer conference. Beyond introducing the Gemini assistant, Google is enhancing the infotainment experience with a series of new features designed to boost connectivity, entertainment, and usability while driving.

Spotify Jam Brings Collaborative Playlists to the Car

One of the standout updates is the overhaul of the Spotify app on Android Auto. Google has introduced new media app templates that enable developers to create richer, more interactive experiences. Spotify Jam, a new feature, allows multiple users in the car to share control of the audio playlist. By tapping a “Jam” icon on the car’s touchscreen and scanning a QR code, passengers can add songs from their own devices, fostering a collaborative and inclusive music experience. Unlike Apple Music’s SharePlay, Spotify Jam works across all devices, making it more accessible.

These features are designed to be used safely, only activating when the vehicle is parked. While gaming apps are already available in beta, video and browser apps are rolling out soon, initially for cars with Google built-in.
