Adobe Adds AI Powered Upscaling and Blending in Photoshop

Adobe is rolling out three new AI-driven Photoshop features powered by its Firefly models: Generative Upscale restores images up to 8 megapixels, Harmonize blends new objects into scenes with matching color, lighting, and shadows, and an upgraded object remover fills gaps precisely. Plus, users get enhanced asset organization and model version choices on desktop, web, and in early iOS beta.

Adobe today announced a suite of Firefly-powered AI enhancements for Photoshop, bringing advanced image upscaling, seamless object blending, and smarter removal tools to desktop, web, and an early iOS beta. These features aim to save time for photographers, designers, and content creators by automating tedious editing tasks.

Generative Upscale Boosts Image Resolution

With Generative Upscale, Photoshop can enhance images up to 8 megapixels, restoring fine details in old photographs or preparing assets for large-format prints. Whether reviving a vintage portrait or adapting a logo for billboard use, this feature uses deep learning to reconstruct sharp edges and textures without manual intervention.

Harmonize for Seamless Blending

Formerly Project Perfect Blend, the new Harmonize tool matches color, lighting, shadows, and tone when you insert an object into a scene. Add a sofa to a living room or drop a product shot onto any background and let Firefly’s models adjust the visual cues so the element appears naturally integrated.

Refined Object Removal

The upgraded object remover focuses precisely on the unwanted element, filling gaps with background pixels rather than extrapolating the entire scene. In demos, Photoshop replaced a bowl of salsa with a matching surface pattern—no green blobs, no artifacts—making edits cleaner and faster.

More Control and Collaboration

Beyond AI tools, Adobe is improving asset management with shared, organized libraries and letting users select specific Firefly model versions. These options help teams maintain consistency across campaigns, choose models tuned for different styles, and collaborate seamlessly on both web and desktop environments.

A Smarter Photo Editing Future

"We spoke with photographers, designers, and content creators to identify workflow bottlenecks," said Shambhavi Kadam, Senior Director of Photoshop Product Management. "These AI features will remove friction and tackle time-consuming tasks, letting creatives focus on their vision." The beta is now live on desktop and web, with Harmonize in Photoshop’s iOS early access.
