28 Years Later Introduces New Terrifying Infected Variants
In 28 Years Later, director Danny Boyle expands the terrifying Infected roster with new variants like the slow-moving 'Slow-lows' and stronger 'Beserker' and 'Alpha' types. Innovative filming methods, including multiple camera setups, heighten the visceral horror. The widescreen format keeps audiences on edge, scanning for threats everywhere.
The upcoming film 28 Years Later, directed by Danny Boyle, is set to reintroduce audiences to a post-apocalyptic world plagued by terrifying Infected. But this time, the horror evolves with new mutated variants that promise to raise the stakes and the fear factor.
Unlike the fast-running Infected familiar from previous films, 28 Years Later introduces “Slow-lows,” a new type that moves slowly but is no less dangerous. Boyle warns against underestimating them despite their lack of speed, emphasizing their evolved survival tactics in the harsh new environment.
Adding further complexity, the film features “Beserker” and “Alpha” Infected types. These variants are stronger and possibly possess some intelligence beneath their rage-virus-driven frenzy, creating unpredictable threats that heighten tension and suspense.
From a technical perspective, Boyle’s team employed innovative filming techniques to amplify the horror experience. For example, actors portraying Slow-lows had cameras attached to them, immersing viewers in their perspective and intensifying fear. Some scenes used up to 20 iPhones simultaneously to create a “poor man’s bullet time” effect, adding dynamic visual flair.
The film’s widescreen format also plays a crucial role in building unease. By replicating the first movie’s sense of speed and unpredictability, the format forces audiences to constantly scan the frame, never knowing where the next threat might emerge. This technique enhances the visceral and immersive nature of the Infected’s depiction.
28 Years Later hits theaters on June 20, promising fans a fresh and terrifying chapter in the franchise with evolved monsters and cutting-edge cinematic techniques that redefine horror storytelling.
