2026 BMW iX Refresh Boosts Range Power and Accessibility for Luxury EV Buyers

BMW’s flagship electric SUV, the iX, is getting a much-needed refresh for the 2026 model year, aiming to boost its appeal amid declining sales. The update includes a larger battery, increased horsepower, longer driving range, and a new entry-level model designed to make the iX more accessible to a broader audience.

The previous base model, now renamed xDrive60, features a 113 kWh battery delivering 536 horsepower and an EPA-estimated range of 364 miles, up from 304 miles. The high-performance M70 xDrive variant offers 650 horsepower and 303 miles of range. The new entry-level xDrive45 model starts at $76,325 and provides 402 horsepower with 312 miles of range, meeting BMW’s goal of at least 300 miles and 400 hp for all trims.

Design changes include a more aggressive and illuminated kidney grille with horizontal slates, slimmer headlights aligned with BMW’s Neue Klasse models, and a cleaner overall front-end look. The interior remains largely unchanged, featuring a large curving screen with sharp graphics, though some users may prefer wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for simplicity.

BMW has refined the driving experience by improving suspension and chassis control to address previous stiffness complaints. The M70 variant delivers enhanced power and response, though added weight affects agility in sharp corners. The air suspension system offers adjustable ground clearance and improved aerodynamics with new front bumper air vents and wheel size options.

While the iX’s operating system remains somewhat cluttered and build quality issues persist, the vehicle is still regarded as a near-perfect luxury EV. The new entry-level xDrive45 is particularly notable for offering a luxurious yet affordable option without compromising range or power, positioning BMW to attract new customers in the competitive EV market.
